Imagined Memories at Erato on Main, Edwardsville

Posted in Erato Show, Exhibits and News on October 1st, 2008

Imagined memories an exhibit of my artwork is currently hanging at Erato on Main Wine Bar and Kitchen in Edwardsville. The show will last through February and will be followed by an exhibit of work by John Quinn.

Imagined Memories

In the process of creating these prints I draw upon original photographs, each of which is a container for personal memories of the time, place and object captured within the image.

I digitally collage and paint the photos to create new, abstract images. In the process some of the original are retained but altered and others are lost or changed beyond recognition. What emerges is a new image with new meanings that become “tagged” to personal memories that are seemingly unrelated to their original content.

The process mirrors the way our mind uses existing memories to interpret new experiences and in the process reshapes both. Over time all of our memories become, to some degree, Imagined Memories.

My titles hint at some of the memories I associate with these images but the viewer is invited to create her own, personal connections. View the images…
